Duet with one voice

An intimate act transpired between a pianist and his instrument.

As his fingers sunk into the keys,

the piano,

who longed to release her voice,

began singing.

She knew neither lyrics nor meaning,

yet as the pianist lingered in some moments,

and hastened through others,

her questions found their answer.

The audience failed to observe

the beads of sweat that lay rest on his fingertips.

They threatened to swell and fall,

and when they did,

the piano finally understood her player.

Just as he had heard the uncertainty in her tone,

she felt the unrest in his heart,

and so she sang like she had never before—a duet with one voice.

And the sorrowful melody ran,

reaching even the stillest of souls.
