America Forbid

I pledge allegiance

to the flag

of the United States of America,

to the republic for which it stands,

one nation,

under God?

Who said: “Let the little children come to me.”

I must have missed

the declaration

demanding a paper to cross the fictitious border separating them

from the light.

Our nation,

ruled

under God?

Governed by the disciples,

who look into the eyes of hopefully, humble humans,

of children,

with disdain,

unworthy of the Great Nation,

that denies what he didn’t.

We were once all foreigners

to the frightened roots of trees

that questioned our permanent footsteps

on their place.

We had no papers then,

only eyes filled with hope,

humble to the unknown,

Humans.

Were we worthy,

under God, then?

Who said: “Let the little children come to me.”

And so, we did.

Yet now, forbid.
